Message from the Chairman
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my distinct pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the 'City of Joy,' Kolkata—the cultural heart of India. Situated in Eastern India along the historic banks of the Ganges, Kolkata is a city where tradition meets modernity. Beyond its wealth of heritage sites, the city offers a legendary culinary landscape, promising a unique and flavorful experience for every visitor. In the backdrop of the historic and vibrant city of Kolkata, the international conference CODEC 2026 will be hosted from December 19–21, 2026, on the Institute's own campus centrally located within the heart of the city.
Founded in 1949, the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics (IRPE) was established as an independent postgraduate teaching and research Department under the University of Calcutta. The Institute’s foundation was laid by the legendary Late Professor Sisir Kumar Mitra, D. Sc., F.R.S., Padma Bhushan, who led the Department until his retirement in 1955. The Institute has consistently set the standard for academic and research excellence in India in the various fields of Radio Communications. In recognition the Institute was nominated as Center of Advanced Study (CAS) by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1962-63. Building on this foundation of excellence, the Institute has earned numerous awards and distinctions for its contributions to research and education. With funding from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) a Centre named as S.K. Mitra Centre for Research in Space Environment was established in the Institute in 2002. Later on the Institute was given the status of UGC Networking Resource Centre in Physical Sciences by UGC. Through these high-level affiliations, the Institute remains at the forefront of scientific innovation, bridging the gap between fundamental physics and applied engineering.
The Institute started its Golden Jubilee celebration in 1998 by holding first International Conference on Computers and Devices for Communication (CODEC). It is my distinct privilege to invite you to the 9th International Conference on Computers and Devices for Communications (CODEC 2026).
CODEC-2026 is designed to address the frontiers of modern engineering, and focuses on critical advancements in Semiconductor Devices, Radio Communication, Antennas, IoT, VLSI, and Medical Technology, among other key sectors. As a triennial landmark event, it typically draws more than 250 delegates, sparking a high-level exchange between global experts and leading scientists from India’s top national laboratories and universities.
CODEC 2026 will feature a broad spectrum of activities, including technical sessions across multiple tracks, keynote and plenary sessions, invited talks, poster sessions, industry sessions, exhibits, professional meetings and networking events.
We look forward to welcoming you to the heart of Kolkata from December 19–21, 2026.
